Whether its captivating nature is by some magic or merely science-fiction turned reality, the Swissgear Travel Gear 1900 Scansmart backpack is no fantasy.
It has the quality and durability you would expect from something made by the Swiss. On top of this, though, it has added features to allow you to get through airport security faster.
That makes this backpack a no-brainer for travelers or partakers in international intrigue.
Features of Swissgear Travel Gear 1900
Uncommon Appeal
I have always known Swiss Gear backpacks to be quality but design and attention to detail on this one definitely stand out. It almost seemed to be designed for secret agents the way everything folded out, offering easy access to several pockets and device holsters. It is finally a Swiss army backpack to fit all your Swiss army tools.
I personally like the grey heather color scheme because I like the retro luggage feel of it. It also reminds me of Star Wars for some reason, but then again that happens a lot. If that’s not your thing, however, it also comes in safer colors like black (that matches with anything right?)
It takes a lot to wear out these backpacks. I still have a Swiss Gear that is at least seven years old that also survived a previous owner. After all that time, it’s a little tattered but still works! I go for the battle damaged look anyway.
The Secret to Levitation
Several reviews on Amazon talk about this being one comfortable backpack. The padding on the straps and back of the pack itself are substantial. Of course, there is also the secret technology they use to make it contour perfectly to your back and shoulders.
It’s so comfortable that I bet you could carry Yoda around without breaking a sweat. Yes, the main pouch is so roomy that he would fit, trust me, I know the measurements. The handle on top is also very nice, making it easy to carry even when fully loaded down.
Inspector Gadget
The laptop sleeve fits laptops up to 17”, so sorry, no gaming rigs. It also has special spots for tablets, phones and media players. One of these hangs down inside the main pouch and is conveniently located next to the hole through which you can put your earphone cable.
The pack then has several other pouches and zippered sections. Even being the nerd I am, I wouldn’t have enough gadgets to fit in all the pockets and such on this backpack.
It is also great how the sides and front of the backpack have a little padding to keep your electronics safe if you happen to drop it or your mission goes awry. The sturdy synthetic fabric is also water-resistant.
Even the zippers are heavy-duty, or what we in the business call armor-plated. Oh and I almost forgot! There’s a spot on the shoulder strap for your (extra) sunglasses. Agents are strongly encouraged to wear them.

Inspection Ready
The whole bag zips in half so you can open it up to reveal both the tablet and laptop sleeves at the same time. In fact, this backpack was specifically designed for x-ray machines and to be TSA approved. It makes going through airport security so smooth that I’m thinking of getting one so I don’t have to use my invisibility cape to skip the line.
Instead, I will just give the security person a nod and pretend I’m with the Agency.
This backpack really is great for travel though. It can be its own base camp, or command station if you prefer. Other reviewers on Amazon have talked about taking it on short two to three-day trips. You can fit a laptop, a toiletry bag, a pair of pants, three shirts, socks, underwear, a book or two and various other things (some classified).
Bells and Whistles and Fairy Dust
There are some other details that show that a lot of thought and potentially magic went into this backpack. I like how the water bottle pouches on the side have straps, so you can make sure your drinks and potions are secure.
Another great thing about this bag is how you can also fit things like books and binders in the device sleeves if you are a student or merely researching the elixir of life.
I could also see it being used for short two or three-day hiking trips. It has one carabiner built-in on the back and enough other attachment points to add a good amount of accessories.
If only this backpack had a few extra straps on the bottom or sides you could get a tent on it would be great for even longer trips. My missions usually involve urban areas so it would fit my purposes well.

When it’s all said and done, and the world is once again safe, this backpack is well worth the price. The ease of access to everything and the security-minded features make travel a breeze.

Even if you are not an aspiring agent, you will still find it useful. Feel like James Bond without the well-funded research department of kooky scientists.
