We all have done this at least once in our lives. Remember when you were a kid, running with a backpack to school because the classes started and you were a few blocks away?
We all have been there, nothing new. Arriving at your ‘finish line’ wasn’t all the time quite rewarding, because you were breathless, red, sweaty and with such a high blood pressure that you could hear your heart beaten. The main reason was your way-to-heavy rucksack filled with a pile of books.
On the same time, some people are used to running with a backpack for pleasure, because they want to have a little more weight on their shoulders, that makes the workout more efficient.
It doesn’t matter what’s your case, what’s really significant is that you should know some tips when choosing to run with a backpack so you won’t have the most unpleasant experience ever.
Choose The Best Backpack
If it happens for you to run often with a backpack, buy one which is more appropriate for your needs. It should have an anatomical frame system (which looks like a fishnet on the back of your product and allows your skin to breathe), thicker straps which cover almost all your shoulders, soft sponges and really fine stitches.
Moreover, just try to pick up the best backpack for running which is light in weight. An extra heaviness is not desired, you’ll have all your belongings in it, that’s enough for your back.
Minimize
A minimalistic lifestyle it’s a piece of cake for some of us, but on the other hand, many people find it impossible. But let’s think, it’s more important to carry a hammer with me when I’m running on a leafy avenue, or it’s best for me to have only the essentials and my back will really thank me?
Hmm, it’s not so difficult to take that decision, isn’t it? Take with you only what you really and absolutely need! For instance, try to organize yourself through the ‘5 rule’.
You are allowed to carry only 5 items. You’ll educate yourself and you’ll discover that you used to bring with you things that you never ended using.
The fewer, the better!
Adjustments
I understand that you want to be in fashion, but trust me, it’s not the case right now. A baggy rucksack which will constantly hit your back while you are running is such a no-no.
Adjust your straps on your measurements so your backpack will stay close to you and it won’t provoke any inconveniences. But don’t be too dramatic. Let your skin breath and don’t suffocate your shoulders. Just find the right adjustment and go for it!
Furthermore, many backpacks are provided with waist straps. Use them, don’t hesitate, because everything will stay better in place.
Position And Movement
You’ll notice that your backpack will try to listen to your body and react to it. In many cases, it makes the opposite of what you may expect. It will bang from side to side, making you lose your equilibrium.
As I previously said, adjusting the straps makes such a huge difference, (try it and you’ll see!), but also your movements are significant in that process. If you tend to jump a little bit while running, certainly your backpack will jump with you.
Try to have a more fluent and soft run, your rucksack will be so quiet and still that you’ll forget that you wear one.
Moreover, keep your back straight. You need your muscles to work efficiently, don’t put on them more pressure than you should!
Organize Your Belongings
I bet that you feel at least once the sharp pen running through your rucksack right in your back. Before taking a run with your backpack, take a look at what you have there and organize them.
Don’t let rulers, bottles or pens stick into your back. Put something more flat or even soft behind and the ‘risky’ objects in the front. It is better now, isn’t it? Such a relief!
Stay Safe
Remember that you have to carry some weight now so your run won’t be that easy. Breathe constantly! Many people forget to breathe correctly and they find themselves without air, suffocating. Inhale on your nose, exhale on your mouth.
Take small steps! You don’t need to be the first on the finish line, because there is not a finish line. Your priority is your health. A lean and clean movement is the best. No injuries, no worries.
Balance your arms around your body. Don’t be chaotic. Don’t chat while you are running. Focus on what you have to do at that moment. Too many things and the same time can spoil everything.
Keep your back straight and don’t bend your knees too much, you don’t need to touch the ground while running. A good posture is essential.
Don’t see only the disadvantages in a situation. ‘Oh, why on Earth should I carry this heavy backpack?’. So annoying, many believe. But, what if I tell you that there are also good facts?
You can have all you need with you: money, water, clothes, books, whatever you may use at some point. It also helps you tone your muscles and build some strength.
No worries, however, that you may need to carry your wallet and you won’t have a place for it. But, don’t exaggerate! You still don’t need your entire wardrobe with you. The 5 rule, remember?
Moreover, take the time to fix all the possible problems you may have. Adjust your straps, re-organize the stuff in your backpack. Who wants to be hit while enjoying his run? Yes, you have the answer! No one!
Don’t let anything ruin your mood. Run like it’s the last thing you can do on Earth. Take a look around you, enjoy the people and the surrounding. Show your backpack the world and make it your travel partner.
Stay safe and be careful with all your decisions, they matter!
